City Tours: West St Paul's to Fleet Street

This tour heads west towards the area around St Paul's where successful conservation and the insertion of low-rise new-builds have enabled the cathedral to retain its visual prominence while preserving much of the medieval street pattern. In contrast, WW2 destruction and the recent introduction of major new public space has created a newly open environment. In 1990 the removal of the Ludgate Rail Bridge and the lowering of the tracks engendered a development opportunity for a new generation of commercial buildings linked by a pedestrian route from Newgate to New Bridge Street. We will end our tour in the reinvented Fleet Street where two listed former newspaper premises have recently been retro-fitted.
